| Ken Greig |
Prior to founding Greig + Stephenson in 1994,
Ken worked at international design consultancy Fitch for 10 years,
where he was jointly responsible with Nigel Stephenson for the direction
and management of the architecture team. Since founding Greig + Stephenson
the partners have specialised in retail projects in the UK and across
Europe, ranging in scale from shopping centres such as Milton Keynes
and new hypermarkets for Dutch food retailer Ahold, to market stalls.
The refurbishment of listed buildings for retail purposes has proved
a specialism for Greig + Stephenson. In the Netherlands the practice
designed the conversion of the old post office building into Magna
Plaza, a specialist shopping centre, since then they have worked
with listed buildings for HMV and Waterstones in the UK, and are
currently restoring a listed building in Ostend for ING.
Since working on the restoration and regeneration of Leeds Market,
Ken has found himself specialising in market regeneration, successfully
using a strategic approach to design, planning and management within
markets to improve trade and conditions. He has worked with market
authorities in Leicester, Hanley (Stoke on Trent), Preston and Greenwich,
but Borough Market in London is perhaps closest to his heart, combining
the delights of good food, great personalities and a once in a lifetime
project opportunity. |
