| Nigel Stephenson |
Prior to founding Greig + Stephenson in 1994,
Nigel worked at international design consultancy Fitch for 10 years,
where he was jointly responsible with Ken Greig for the direction
and management of the architecture team. Since founding Greig + Stephenson
the partners have specialised in retail projects in the UK and across
Europe, ranging in scale from shopping centres such as Milton Keynes
and new hypermarkets for Dutch food retailer Ahold, to market stalls.
The refurbishment of listed buildings for retail purposes has proved
a specialism for Greig + Stephenson. In the Netherlands the practice
designed the conversion of the old post office building into Magna
Plaza, a specialist shopping centre, since then they have worked
with listed buildings for HMV and Waterstones in the UK, and are
currently restoring a listed building in Ostend for ING. One of the
earliest projects was the extension and refurbishment of one of Holland’s
top 100 monuments - the de Bijenkorf department store in The Hague.
A further de Bijenkorf store was built in a new shopping centre in
Amstelveen.
Following the award-winning success of the Corio Center
at Heerlen in the south of Holland, Nigel has worked on four new
shopping centres
in the Netherlands; including the major refurbishment of Oesterhof
shopping centre in Rotterdam, which opened 2002. More recently, Nigel
has completed major new shopping centres in Liege, Belgium, and St
Quentin en Evelyne, France. Nigel is currently working with Preston
City Council and Grosvenor, advising on the market. |
