Peter Gott of Sillfield Farm, Kendal, Cumbria,
has been a market trader and retailer of food produce for 30 years,
farming wild boar, rare breed pigs, pedigree poultry & sheep. Sillfield Farm has traded at markets in Ireland, England, Scotland,
Holland, Spain, France, Italy & Germany. In 1994 Peter Gott was
the winner of the Best Market Stall at the Dutch International Market
in Den-Bosch, which had over 300 market traders. Peter Gott has attended
individual inside and outside markets as well as events throughout
the UK. Gott is a member of the N.M.T.F.(National Market Traders
Federation) and was instrumental in setting up the Southern Irish
Market & Street Traders Association in 1996.
Sillfield Farm first attended Borough Market in December 1998 as
one of the first retail stall holders on the third weekend of the
month, and initiated The Triangle (with 6 sub-tenants) within the
Borough Market. Gott is an active member of the Specialist Cheese
Makers’ Association UK & Ireland, which was established
in 1989.
A committee member of the B.W.B.A. (British Wild Boar Association)
Peter was also appointed board member of E.M.F. (European Market
Festivals) representing the UK in Europe. In the North West of England
Peter Gott has created a “Slow Food” group (convivia),
which encourages and promotes local food and artisan food production.
Within the media, Gott has successfully informed many journalists
and broadcasters of the role of small producers and has contributed
numerous times to the award winning BBC Radio 4 Food programme and
Farming Today.
Peter Gott instigated the BBC’s recent production “Jimmy’s
Farm” that was screened in July 2004. Gott is involved in the
farm, as a partner, with Jimmy as the agricultural tenant and has
25% of the shares in the farm business.
Peter has extensive knowledge of the food chain and as a farmer,
understand the fundamentals of going to market. He has studied the
social interaction on markets & how this is valued within a community. |
